Be safe this winter - stay off the storm ponds

The communities of Big Lake are home to a few stormwater ponds. They are lovely additions to our naturalized areas, but they are not meant for recreational use, especially in the winter. Stormwater ponds are NOT safe to walk, skate, toboggan, or play on.
Stormwater ponds are engineered to collect and move melting snow and ice from streets and sidewalks, which often include salt and other ice melt products, making the ice unpredictable and dangerous.
If you would like to skate, please go to our temporary ice rink at the Hawksridge Future School Site instead!
Additional warning signs have been installed around some of our stormwater pond facilities, but please talk to your family about the dangers of playing on or near these facilities.
