2026 Needs Assessment Survey Results

Thank you, Big Lake!

We want to sincerely thank the 129 residents who took the time to complete our 2026 Community Needs Assessment Survey. Your feedback is incredibly valuable and will directly shape the future of our programs, events, and community spaces. Below is a snapshot of the overall results from the survey.

Our Community at a Glance

  • Strong representation from Trumpeter, with good numbers from Hawks Ridge and Starling

  • Average time living in Big Lake: 6.36 years

  • Family-focused neighbourhood — over 50% of households have children at home

  • Largest age group: 35–44 years (followed by 25–34 and 45–54)

  • 96% homeowners

  • Highly educated and engaged community

Community League Engagement

  • 67% of you currently have a paid BLCL membership

  • Only 45% attended a community event in the past year; thank you for your honesty and we will take your feedback to enhance upcoming events. Remember: we need volunteers to run these events, so please consider volunteering to help us provide the events residents want!

  • Strong interest in launching a child and youth soccer program

Your Top Priorities for New Amenities

You ranked the following structures as your highest priorities for the Community League to fundraise for:

  1. Fenced Dog Park

  2. Community Garden

  3. Community Hall

  4. Gazebo Area

(Other options like splash park, permanent ice rink, and outdoor sports field ranked lower.)

These results will help guide our work with the City of Edmonton on the new community land and the Tripartite Agreement.
